I have a couple columns I'll typically populate with the same values for every device of a given Instrument Type, things like non-address DIP switch positions, fixture settings, a mode in my User Column for better printing on the labels, etc..
Is there a way to auto-populate these fields when new instruments are added of a given type?

No, but if you do a View/Instrument Type on the worksheet and turn on the relevant columns, you can click the column header to select all of the cells in that category, type in the info and hit Return.
