Working in an undergrad academic environment we often have students assisting outside professionals. The issue I constantly run into is that a student doesn't own the software and can't sufficiently assist.
While we have extra seats on machines that are accessible to students, this doesn't allow them to make updates or changes on their laptops in the space during focus or tech, nor does it allow them to work at home. It also means they can not easily pull up the files unless in the computer lab.
Why not create a way we can rent a seat for students on a per show basis? The students get to know the program better, therefore increasing the likelihood they will purchase it.

Have you considered keeping a school owned laptop with LW on it and loaning that to the students as needed?

There is a student license price. At $135 I don't think it is too much to ask that they pay that. I remember course books that were that much when I was in college. I know...Books! ...thats show how long ago I was in school.
But then again laptops are pretty cheap and having a production machine available for them might be a good answer too.
How do they handle other software needs? Office, VW, CAD etc?

This would be great! Even for professionals that gig in different scenarios. QLab/Figure53 has a great program where your rental purchases go toward buying the software outright. (Pay-as-you-go). And you rent by the day/week/etc.
