Hey folks, (John)
I'm about to layout 5 large plots. I usually don't do the KB method of hookup first then plot but I'm considering it. Any tips or tricks to make this go smoothly? If i import a few hundred units from LW into VWX how does that happen these days? Where do they land in my drawing?
Thanks.
HG

I believe they land in the center, all piled up on top of each other. they come in as rectangles, because there is no symbol name in the data field. IMHO it's much easier to plot first, then bring that into LW

I believe in Lightwright 6 there are x y and z vector works coordinates as data. You could space your lights out on the x by 18" and on the y by let's say 2 feet. And then you would get your lights at least in rows and columns, which makes it easy to drag the instruments to your lighting positions.

Unfortunately, Vectorworks won't let Lightwright send X, Y, Z coordinates to it. You can work the Lightwright separately from Vectorworks (with Data Exchange off) and then turn on Data Exchange, as long as your position names and unit numbers are identical and unambiguous in both VW and LW.

I believe they land in the center, all piled up on top of each other. they come in as rectangles, because there is no symbol name in the data field. IMHO it's much easier to plot first, then bring that into LW Correct. Easy to fix though. Choose one and move it way over in one direction. Then Choose them all and distribute. As for organizing, choose all by position name and move just them to the correct position area of the plot. Rinse and repeat. Drag individual units to their proper place. Yes, if one were to start with a completely new file, you'd get empty rectangles in VW. I recommend starting with a template file for both LW & VW. Each one already populated with the types of units you tend to use. All will be grand with the world. Another option vs having position names: You can also pre-load your focus points in LW for each unit. Once in VW, turn on the beams (yes, you have to add matching focus points into VW before this will work) and you'll see them all pointing to your focus points. Do one focus point at a time, grab each unit and move them to where you want. Later, Scott
