I'm wondering if there are options for someone like me that aren't highlighted on the website, so checking here to see if anyone knows. I can't find a "contact us" email anywhere on the site.
I'm looking for a low-cost, light-use option. I am an adjunct instructor at two small colleges, teaching one lighting and sound class to about 20-25 students per year, of which on average 0-1 person is a lighting student and the rest are a small handful of actors and a large majority of gen-ed students. My most recent non-educational lighting design was in 2008 and I haven't been able to justify the license since that time, with an annual income of around 20k and two college designs per year.
Is there a Reader available (as with VectorWorks) for free or a small fee, so that I can at least read files sent by visiting artists?
Is there a smaller, 1-2 seat institutional license, since I (to date) have not been able to get funding for the full institutional license and would like to at least demonstrate the product to potential future designers?
Does anyone have a fail-safe strategy for convincing a department with fewer than ten majors (of which maybe one is a design student) to fund a full institutional license? I have managed to convince both colleges to supply VectorWorks, a much more expensive software, because the VW educational pricing is much more acceptable for my small institutions (free to students or faculty, reasonable cost for lab licenses). Understand I have no interest in bankrupting John, but I hope that promising it will get very little use there might be a more affordable option for us.
Any feedback is welcome!
